Injuries

There is no universal or comprehensive system for compensating people who have suffered injury or disease in Western Australia. In each State and within the Commonwealth legislation a range of compensation and sickness benefit systems operate. An injured person must come within at least one of a number of the specific systems to obtain compensation. Some people are injured in circumstances which may entitle them to compensation from more than one ‘system’ of compensation. Other people will suffer similar injuries in circumstances which will not entitle them to compensation at all. The following chapter covers the most important ‘systems’ or circumstances which entitle injured people to be compensated for those injuries.
