5.2.1 Cabinet documents

The format for citing cabinet documents is as follows:

The document identifier describes the document source and type.

The date is given in round brackets.

The reference number will be specific to the type of document:
  • pre-1989 Cabinet minutes have references that begin with “CM”;

  • 1989-present Cabinet minutes have references that begin with “CAB”;

  • Cabinet Office documents have references that begin with “CO”;

  • Cabinet Strategy Committee documents have references that begin with “STR”; and

  • Cabinet papers have references that begin with “CAB”.

5.2.2 Cabinet Manual

The format for citing the Cabinet Manual is as follows:

5.2.3 Law Commission reports

The format for citing Law Commission reports is as follows:

Cite Law Commission papers as stand-alone publications and not as part of the AJHR.

The Official Citation takes the form “NZLC xx##”, where xx indicates the type of paper and ## the unique paper number. The Commission produces the following types of paper, which are abbreviated as follows:

The format for citing the New Zealand Gazette from October 2017 onwards is as follows:

Select committee reports on Bills should be cited in accordance with rule 4.2.2. Other select committee reports should be cited as follows:
